A new surge of “Brontëmania” has taken holdthe historic residence of the literary sisters, after the release ofa fresh cinematic version ofWuthering Heights.

The Brontë Parsonage Museum inHaworth, West Yorkshire, a worldwide center for fans, notes a “stunning” reaction to Emerald Fennell’s interpretation of Emily Brontë’s renowned work.

The movie, which came out on February 13, features Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi andfeatures a Charli XCX soundtrack.

Mia Ferullo, the museum’s digital engagement officer, stated that this increase is the latest in a series of renewed interests in the lives and writings of Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Brontë.

With talks currently spreading regarding an international television version ofJane Eyre, featuring Aimee Lou Wood, Ms Ferullo notices no indication that the passion for literature is diminishing.

I’ve never encountered so many people discussing Emily Brontë andWuthering Heights,” she said.

It has been incredibly mind-blowing – truly, very strange.

We discuss the Brontës daily, and everyone else is gradually becoming part of this dialogue, which is present everywhere.

So many individuals are reading the book for the first time and encountering the Brontës for the first time.

It really feels like a huge, unique, and extraordinary moment.

Ms. Ferullo has been delivering presentations for the past two weeks at the museum about Brontëmania, the literary journeys to the sisters’ home in Haworth that started in the late 1800s – even while the sisters’ father, Reverend Patrick Bronte, was still residing in the house.

She stated: “Individuals from as far away as America were traveling to Haworth in an attempt to view the location where Charlotte Brontë composed her work.”Jane Eyreand lived.

So it really began very early on, before the museum was located at the parsonage.

She mentioned, “Even while Patrick was still residing there, individuals would visit, and he would retrieve Charlotte’s signature from letters and other items to hand out as mementos.”

People would enter the church to view the marriage register book in which Charlotte had written.

So, there was significant interest.

And, I believe that’s one reason the church chose to sell the parsonage, as people were becoming increasingly annoyed by the tourists.

Renowned literary figure Virginia Woolfvisited the home in 1904 and noted that knowing where the books were composed enhanced readers’ enjoyment of the literature.

Ms. Ferullo mentioned that the increase in new visitors is partially due to the ongoing trend of individuals wanting to visit the places where literary and film works were produced.

Several authors are as closely tied to a particular location as the Brontës are to Haworth and the nearby moors, she stated.

Individuals visit the house seeking knowledge about the Brontës’ lives, yet it is the moors around them that give visitors the sensation of entering the novels themselves.

I don’t believe they would have composed things likeWuthering Heightsnot residing in this region.

Ms. Ferullo stated, “With the movie, it’s clearly encouraged many people to purchase the book, and we’ve sold a significant number of”copies ofWuthering Heightsin the shop.

But I believe, also, people desire to feel a little more connected.

And, it offers a more genuine experience of visiting the real location where everything began, where this book was written.

She stated, “There are certainly many individuals who adore the books, and that is what has encouraged them to come visit.”

Many individuals read them during their teenage years and gradually grow up alongside them.

But we do have individuals who are simply visiting Haworth for a day trip, and the museum is here, so they come in and, it is hoped, gain more knowledge.

She stated, “What we really appreciate is that it initiates the discussion, enables us to engage with others, and then, hopefully, they will gain more understanding.”

It’s somewhat akin to a gateway into the Brontës.

The recently releasedWuthering Heightsmovieis merely the most recent in a series of adaptations of the 1847 novel.

One of the ongoing displays at the parsonage showcases numerous examples, beginning with the first film from 1920 up to versions from Mexico and Japan.
