Updated Villains Land May Feature ‘The Emperor’s New Groove’ Coaster and ‘Hercules’

Recently, it has been reported that Disneyabandoned the existing plans for the upcoming Villains Landarea at the Magic Kingdom as the upcoming CEO Josh D’Amaro envisions more daring attractions.

Initial ideas for this new area were revealed in 2024, accompanied by Blue Sky concept illustrations that didn’t provide much detail on the attractions. The focus was more on the theme or atmosphere of the entire section. Disney enthusiasts are aware that the early Blue Sky artwork may not reflect the final outcome.

This one is unlikely to be as thematically intense and separated from other parts of the Magic Kingdom.

Now,The Wrapstates to possess additional details regarding some of the upcoming projects, including attractions centered around “Hercules” characters or “The Emperor’s New Groove.”

The new rumors
Revisions to the Villains Land Coaster theme

Initially, we were aware that there would be a Maleficent-themed roller coaster and a family-oriented dark ride, as well as shopping and dining options in this area. However, according to The Wrap, the plans depicted in the Blue Sky artwork have undergone major changes. Now, the roller coaster will be more suitable for families and based on “The Emperor’s New Groove,” while Maleficent has been relocated to another part of the land.

Now, it’s being transformed into a more family-oriented roller coaster, similar to Slinky Dog Dash at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this time inspired by ‘The Emperor’s New Groove.’ This makes sense because in the 2000 film, the villains Yzma and Kronk actually ride a roller coaster, and a lower height requirement allows more guests to enjoy the ride. (Before you ask, yes, there is still a ‘pull the lever’ element on the current attraction.) And don’t worry, Maleficent will continue to be a significant part of the area.

I’m not convinced this is better than a Maleficent coaster—if that’s accurate.

That’s not everything. The other indoor dark ride attraction is being designed around Sleeping Beauty and is inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean in Shanghai.

(So many screens?)

The main highlight will be themed around Maleficent from ‘Sleeping Beauty,’ featuring an indoor water-based ride system that can mimic the Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure attraction at Shanghai Disneyland.

The mysterious third attraction

Yes, there have been accounts of a third attraction being introduced. Numerous people have raised doubts about these details, as permits have already been submitted. This one is reportedly not going to need “extra infrastructure” and appears to be a fast drop spinner ride with some thematic elements similar to Dumbo the Flying Elephant. It will be themed around Ursula (likely due to her tentacles).

Various sources indicate that there will be a third, unannounced attraction in the area. It won’t be as significant as the Maleficent boat ride and won’t need extra infrastructure, as the South Florida Water Management District’s plans have outlined where the dark ride and coaster will be located, along with a new train station — but it will be a carnival-style ‘flat ride.’

This description makes me think of the King’s Island attraction. Simply theme it after Ursula.

It sounds like the Walt Disney WorldThe railroad will also have an extended break in Villains Land. It makes sense.

A major dinner show showcasing characters from “Hercules” is also being speculated about,

Hades will oversee a dinner show that is being compared to the Diamond Horseshoe Revue, a dining performance at the Magic Kingdom. Pain and Panic will also be part of the entertainment, with other villains joining in. This will be a full-service, seated restaurant offering pre-show dining, replacing an earlier planned eatery themed around Madam Medusa from ‘The Rescuers.’ The bayou atmosphere would have been outstanding.

This is in line with their references, but no details have been verified.

Another point they brought up (which I completely agree with) is that the attractions are being constructed to enhance the chances of Lightning Lane premium charges.

With Disney, the focus is consistently on profit.

Once more, these changes are all speculation until verified.
