We’ve all experienced those instances where our curiosity takes over. This is especially true if you’re on a public bus surrounded by a variety of people. However, for one man from Toronto, a single “curious” look led to a lasting negative experience with public transportation.
TikTokcreator Chris Yamez (@thechrisyamez) has accumulated more than 363,000 views following the sharing of a bus-related anecdote. That made him wish he had never glanced downward. Coming back from a shopping trip to get a performance outfit, Chris’s fear of germs was already at its peak. However, the biological danger he faced wasn’t on the seats; it was on another passenger’s device.
A trip to the mall turned into a bus disaster
Chris had just completed purchasing new attire for an upcoming performance and was heading home by bus. He was only two stops away from his residence when the event took place.
As he rose to leave and activated the signal button, he discovered he was positioned next to a passenger sitting right by the exit. Even though he typically tried to steer clear of high-contact areas, the trip had been “cool” until that last moment of curiosity.
One inquisitive look and Chris decided to never use public transportation again.
In a decision he now profoundly regrets, Chris’s head automatically turned toward a passenger’s phone. The initial shock came from seeing his *meat* exposed and visible. “I beg your f—ing pardon,” Chris thought. Then, he looked more closely… just to be certain. “I don’t know why I looked harder,” Chris now regretted saying in his video.
Chris described the scene by imitating the clear action he saw on the screen, and every audience member likely gasped. Now, when he observed more closely, to his shock, he saw the man opening a message conversation.
He clearly couldn’t determine who the man was addressing, but the conversation apparently contained explicit videos of individuals engaging in sexual activity. Taken aback, he unintentionally let out a loud “aye!” during the bus ride.
The traveler behaved as if his personal space had been violated.
Chris’s loud “aye” in response to the explicit material was followed by an uncomfortable exchange. Upon hearing Chris’s verbal reaction, the passenger turned around with a look of “boldness.” It seemed almost as though Chris was the one at fault for witnessing public vulgarity.
To prevent any conversation, Chris simply acted as if he had never said (or seen) anything. However, the encounter was so unsettling that Chris quickly promised himself never to look at someone else’s phone again. Indeed, he vowed to stop riding buses altogether.
Basic manners for using public transit in a secure way
Although Chris’s tale serves as a funny caution against being overly inquisitive, it also points out a significant failure in public transportation manners. For a pleasant journey for all, travelers should adhere to certain fundamental guidelines.
First and foremost, if you don’t want a Chris to see what you’re doing, make sure your phone is angled away from others. However, even more crucially, avoid sharing explicit or private material in public areas. Secondly, nobody wants to listen to your videos, whether they’re of a sexual nature or just a cooking demonstration.
Therefore, headphones are required. When splitting, stay away from directly above passengers who are sitting down. This will prevent you from accidentally “peeking” at their phone.
Residents who take the bus in Toronto say it’s typical.
The discussion board became a shared laughter directed at “bus culture” and the risks of paying attention. “This sounds like a typical Tuesday morning in Toronto,” one person noted, implying that public indecency is a common event in large cities.
“The boldness of him acting like you violated his privacy,” another remarked, highlighting the irony of the passenger’s response. “Meat on the bus?!” a third person exclaimed in shock.
Keeping to yourself is a necessary ability
In the end, Chris’s tale serves as a reminder that certain things are best not witnessed. When a routine trip turns into an unintended glimpse of someone’s private messages, the best course of action is to exit the bus and never glance back.
We hope Chris arrived at his performance on time. However, we aren’t certain if he’s still affected by the visuals. Still, if you’re on the bus, keep your eyes on the road and your “Willie” videos stored away.
