Discover the Best Accommodations in Avoriaz
Wherever you stay in car-free Avoriaz, you are almost guaranteed snow on your doorstep and ski-in/ski-out access to the slopes. The resort is known for its snow-sure location at 1,800m, making it a prime destination for skiers. With 18,000 beds available, demand has surged in recent years, leading to higher rates. Planning ahead is essential, especially during peak times like February school holidays.
Accommodation in Avoriaz is predominantly functional and purpose-built. Self-catering apartments in large residences clad in larch-wood shingles form the bulk of places to stay. Snowcats and horse-drawn sleighs transport luggage for new arrivals, and lifts, restaurants, and nightlife are just a ski swoosh or sledge away.
Choosing the Right Stay
The Falaise district is closest to the long-stay car parks, while Amara is best for beginners and families sticking to easier slopes in the Proclou area. Crozat, located at the top of Avoriaz, offers the most satisfying ski-in/out position. It’s recommended to reserve a year in advance for February school holidays to ensure your first choice of apartment or a room in one of its two four-star hotels or handful of chalets.
Top Hotels and Chalets in Avoriaz
Hôtel des Dromonts by Sowell Collection
Avoriaz’s prized heritage hotel, Hôtel des Dromonts, opened in 1966 and attracts a cultured crowd keen to experience its unique angular architecture. Comfy interiors exude a retro charm: think fabric-clad walls in wine red and ice blue, pops of faux furry, and lots of red cedar wood.
Among the 35 rooms, there are triples, interconnecting doubles, and various-sized suites sleeping five or seven (two or four adults, two children, plus baby cot) for families. Dining is across two excellent restaurants, including Le Festival, named after the hotel’s dead-central location in the busy aptly-named “Festival” district. The equipment room has boot warmers, and a well-equipped Espace Wellness centre spoils with an outdoor hot tub, multiple saunas, hammam, and fitness room. Minimum two-night stay.

Hôtel MiL8
The last hotel to open in Avoriaz (back in 2019 no less), this is a thoroughly contemporary, avant-garde place to stay in the central Amara–Falaise district. Its 42 ultra-modern rooms and suites sport design-led interiors, some with funky curvaceous floor plans or wood-clad balconies. Every room enjoys a snowy outlook. Mountain sunsets from top-floor rooms are memorable; ditto from the hotel’s fabulous outdoor infinity pool. Other facilities worthy of MiL8’s four-star standing include sauna, cardio-training room, massage, and glass-fronted relaxation area. Creative dining in the hotel restaurant offers a choice of modern bistro or brasserie fare.

Premium Residence L’Amara
This luxurious, wood shingle-clad residence is one of those gravity-defying buildings you see teetering on the edge of the cliff as you ride the cable car up from Prodains. Comprising five interconnected blocks, the Amara-district complex offers self-catering accommodation in one- to five-bedroom apartments. Every apartment has a south or southwest-facing balcony and complimentary use of the Deep Nature spa, with large indoor pool, indoor and outdoor saunas, steam room, hot tubs, cardio and fitness zone. As with everywhere in Avoriaz, it’s ski-in/ski-out, plus there is a shuttle service to ferry beginners and children to ski school. Minimum six-night stay.

Hôtel Neige et Roc
Assuming you have the willpower to battle each day with the hordes of skiers from Morzine or Les Gets heading up to Avoriaz on the Prodains Express cable car, then this four-star chalet-hotel in the valley hamlet of Prodains is a good choice. Its 30 rooms are the picture of alpine charm: wood-clad walls or ceiling, richly patterned fabrics in autumnal hues, and vintage decorative. Chef Nicolas Taberlet cooks up a refined French cuisine, and there’s a wood-fired Swedish hot tub and sauna in the delightful garden spa. Massages, beauty treatments, and use of the hammam cost extra. The hotel also has a self-catering studio sleeping two, and an apartment for up to four.

Les Cimes du Soleil
Part of the French Belambra Clubs & Hôtels group, all-inclusive packages at this huge 252-room residence leave you wanting for nothing. Doubles range from petite to spacious, and combine an attractive modern alpine design with a welcome functionality (huge storage drawers under beds, bunkbeds in family rooms, clean towels mid-week). Baby cots can be added to most rooms, and kids’ clubs for children aged three to five leave parents free to ski alone; a second club for six to 17-year-olds functions during December, February, and Easter school holidays. Meals are all buffet-style (cheesy Savoyard specialities like fondue and raclette can be pre-ordered); a food truck spits out burgers; and unlimited French wine flows at lunch and dinner.
