Tampa International Airport is focusing on comfortable travel attire. On Thursday, February 26, the airport’s official X account posted a message urging a prohibition on pajamas.
We’ve seen enough. We’ve had enough, the message began. “Following the successful prohibition of Crocs and providing everyone with the remarkable chance to enjoy the world’s first Crocs-free airport, it’s now time to tackle an even more significant challenge.”
Sleepwear. At the airport. During the daytime,” the statement went on. “We understand this choice might cause inconvenience for someone in your life. It’s time to have a tough talk with them… The chaos ends today. The change begins now. Assist Tampa International Airport in becoming the first Crocs-free and sleepwear-free airport globally. Take action. Refuse to wear pajamas at TPA.

The airport has not officially prohibited Crocs; nevertheless, its social media team has utilized its platform to humorously address the controversial shoes. For example, a 2025 statement regarding TPA security procedures read: “The [Transportation Security Administration] will now allow you to keep your shoes on during security at TPA!!! *unless you’re wearing Crocs…you should remove them and discard them,”the post read.
The Crocs post was, naturally, shared as a joke, as noted by C.J. Johnson, the clever individual managing TPA’s social media. Johnson discussed his humorous content during a 2025 visit to the University of South Florida, highlighting the significance of using humor alongside serious TPA updates.
You must offer people many treats, so that when you need to feed them something healthy, they will pay attention,he said. “If I showed up every day at Tampa International Airport and tweeted that we have flights today, who would care? No one. If we create humorous, quirky content like this with targeted messages that help expand your audience, and then I say, ‘Hey everyone, by the way, we’re closing the airport because of a hurricane,’ people will pay attention.”
The sleepwear post was also a joke, as the airportconfirmed toUSA Today. “Tampa International Airport frequently posts fun, humorous social media content as part of our continuous effort to connect with our audience,” they stated in a release. “The post today about ‘banning’ pajamas was another lighthearted reference to the ongoing discussions about what to wear on travel days. We advise our travelers to move around comfortably and thank our dedicated followers for enjoying the online jokes.”
The TPA pajama post was released four months after U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy initiated “The Golden Age of Travel Starts with You” — a campaign promoting politeness that urged Americans to enhance their behavior at airports; this involved actions such as helping others carry their luggage, thanking airline employees, and “dressing appropriately.”
Duffy spoke about the campaign on theKatie Pavlich Tonightpresent, stating that a more rigid dress code might encourage tourists to act more appropriately.
I can’t force you to dress up, but please don’t wear pajamas and slippers to the airport,” he said. “I believe that if you dress a bit more nicely, you’ll act a bit better,” he added. “We’re all going to be in close airline seats. The costs decrease when we do that. However, I want people to behave properly, and I think dressing a little better would contribute to that.
