All-inclusive resorts can be an excellent choice for families. They simplify budgeting because nearly all expenses are covered in the cost. Since most families spend most of their time at the resort, it’s also more convenient, usually eliminating the need for a rental vehicle.
The main factor in choosing the top all-inclusive resort is identifying one that effortlessly blends the all-inclusive aspect with luxury, exceptional service, and superior dining. AVA Cancun, a recently opened all-inclusive resort, strives to deliver a 5-star all-inclusive experience.
I went to AVA Cancun last week as part of a press trip, and I had an amazing time. I can’t wait to come back with my family and friends. Keep reading to discover everything I thought about AVA Cancun.

Review of Ava Cancun – A Newly Opened Luxurious Family-Friendly All-Inclusive Resort
Location of AVA Cancun
After a lengthy flight, the last thing you need is a long drive to your resort. This isn’t an issue with AVA, as it is only 10 minutes away from the Cancun airport. As soon as you arrive, you’ll have a quick trip to reach your destination.
Arriving at AVA Cancun
I took a non-stop flight from Boston to Cancun and swiftly passed through customs at Cancun International Airport. Since I didn’t have any luggage to check, I went outside to locate my transportation. Following a brief wait, I was on my way to the resort.
I arrived before my room was available, so I gave my luggage to the bell staff and had lunch at one of the two buffet areas. Less than an hour later, my room became available.
AVA Cancun uses a fabric wristband equipped with a circular chip to gain entry to the hotel rooms. I appreciated the convenience of this system, as it eliminated the need to search through my bag for a room key each time I wanted to enter my room.
The resort is split into two areas: the North Wing and the South Wing. Since every room offers an ocean view, the resort looks like a long walkway, providing easy access to everything. All the restaurants and stores have indoor entries along this walkway.
Certain stores and services, such as the coffee shop and the gelato shop, are situated along both sides to provide easier access for visitors.
The resort offers a modern, international atmosphere with a clear Miami influence. It stands out as one of the more distinctive all-inclusive destinations I’ve experienced, and it’s very welcoming to families.
Rooms at AVA Cancun
Even though I didn’t spend much time in my room, I found it quite cozy. Every room at AVA Cancun offers an ocean view along with a private balcony. The balcony includes a hot tub, ideal for relaxing after a busy day.
Although I had a king-sized bed for my use, 2-queen size rooms are also available. King-sized rooms include a small sofa bed.
Room amenities include:
- Complimentary WiFi
- Large rain shower
- Stocked fridge with beverages
- Compact table with two seats
- Robes
- Single-pod coffee maker
- Television
Besides the typical oceanfront accommodations, other options are offered, such as suites and villas.
Food at AVA Cancun
I was particularly impressed by the cuisine at AVA Cancun. Every meal I had was outstanding, though I didn’t get to experience all the dining options during my three-night visit. If you’re planning a trip to AVA, it’s recommended to book your restaurant reservations ahead of time (before arriving at the resort). Black Iron and the two teppanyaki eateries are especially popular, and it’s advised to reserve a spot about a month in advance (though they do accommodate walk-ins).
Dining options available on the premises are:
- Bao (Asian Cuisine)
- Black Iron (Grill)
- Chez Moi (French)
- Copal (Mexican)
- Kita and Minami – teppanyaki (identical menu, one located in the North Wing and the other in the South Wing)
- Livo – Mediterranean/Greek cuisine
- Veranda (Italian)
The cuisine at AVA is truly remarkable, featuring homemade pasta and pitas made fresh for guests throughout the day. The restaurants listed above are available exclusively for dinner. Chez Moi and Bao are designated for adults only.
Other food outlets include:
- Food District and Plaza MX (Buffet or market style)
- Copal Tacos (a small food cart known for outstanding tacos)
- Aroma (coffee shop – one branch in each wing)
- Konos (ice cream and gelato – one store in each wing)
- Bayside Café (café located at AVA Bay)
While I was there, I got to eat at three dinner restaurants: Veranda, Copal, and Livo. The meals were tasty and came in generous portions. I was particularly impressed by how the resort manages food allergies, since all menu items clearly list any allergens.
Complimentary dining services are available at any time during the day. To receive faster assistance in the morning, place a door tag on your door indicating your desired selections. Alternatively, you may call in the morning for greater flexibility and more options.
On two mornings during my visit, I chose breakfast room service to enjoy my meal while getting dressed. Each time, the phone was answered right away, and my food arrived promptly with excellent service.
Amenities at AVA Cancun
As a luxury all-inclusive resort, AVA provides a variety of facilities and events for all guests. Here’s what you can expect.
Full service spa– (additional fee)
The AVA Spa covers more than 60,000 square feet and provides a variety of spa services, beauty treatments, and salon options. Don’t miss the hydrotherapy circuit, which includes soaking pools with different temperature settings.
FIIT Fitness Center
More than 11,000 square feet spread across two levels featuring pickleball courts, TRX equipment, cardiovascular and strength training machines, and a variety of fitness classes such as spinning, yoga, and pilates. One-on-one personal training sessions are also offered.
AVA Kids Clubs
The spacious children’s club facilities feature a dedicated teen area for those aged 13 to 17. Features and offerings consist of art and craft activities, trampolines, video games, table tennis, and additional options.
Pools at AVA
The standout feature of AVA Cancun is AVA Bay, a 2.7-acre natural saltwater lagoon. AVA Bay provides a range of non-motorized water activities all day long. There are numerous lounge chairs and shade structures around AVA Bay, making it simple to spend the entire day there.
Sunny’s Waterpark is a great choice for families with young children. It features slides and water play zones.
Other pools include:
- Aquatico Family Pool
- The Pools at AVA Bay
- The LVC Pool (available only to members)
- Dez Pool (adult-only pool)
I spent an afternoon in one of the cabanas at the Dez Pool (cabanas and Balinese beds can be rented for an extra fee), and enjoyed the ambiance. There was a live violinist and a DJ, and with a stunning pool and a swim-up bar, I had everything required for a perfect afternoon.
The resort is located right on the shoreline, yet many of the guests I observed during the day chose to stay by the pool instead of heading to the beach.
Activities at AVA Cancun
Tired of the sunshine and looking to spend some time inside? AVA has numerous activities available.
TheActo Theateris a live performance space located within the resort. It features a variety of shows and events. On our visit, we appreciated a mariachi band performance, which brought a taste of Mexican culture to our stay.
Entertainment and eventsare available all day, such as bingo, art and craft sessions, cocktail making, trivia games, and pool-related activities (including water-based exercise classes).
For an extra charge, AVA provides an arcade, escape rooms (supplied by Escapology), laser tag, bowling (featuring four lanes for all guests and four lanes designated for children), and various simulators.
Although it’s not necessary to leave the property during your stay, there are several outside tours you can reserve. Staff members at the resort are available to help you arrange your activities.
