But Qantas isredefining the standard with its updated loyalty program, which will involve several beneficial changes for its regular travelers. New methods to achieve status, for instance, will be a positive development.

Non-Flying Status Credits
Building top-tier status via credit card usage has been common in the U.S. for many years. However, in numerous other nations, this idea is still fairly new.
After testing the feature last year,Qantaswill establish a method of earning status through spending (not only flying) as a lasting feature in the latter part of 2026.
“Last year’s trial set new records for member participation, showing they are looking for additional methods to accelerate their status,” said Andrew Glance, CEO of loyalty and customer at Qantas.
Members with frequent flyer status will be able to choose from the following optionsgain up to 140 extra Status CreditsEvery year, by spending across 10 categories, you accumulate nearly half of the 300 Status Credits required for Silver status.

More Lifetime Milestones
Beginning in 2027, Qantas will grant an extra year of Platinum status for every 10,000 Status Credits that Lifetime Gold members accumulate above the required limit. A maximum of 5 additional years can be stored and used at the same time.
Enhanced Tier Benefits
SinceSilver members do not receive access to the complimentary lounge., Qantas will provide those membersan additional lounge invitation per year. This is a component of a broader tier system update, which we can anticipate being unveiled in 2027.
Elimination of Lower Level Retention Standards
Frequent travelers with Qantas are accustomed to requiring fewer Status Credits to retain their status than to initially achieve it. For instance, you currently need 700 Status Credits to obtain Gold status. Once achieved, only 600 are needed to keep it. Qantas’ loyalty program updates are expected to be largely positive for regular travelers.
