Purdue Football’s 2025 Season: A Schedule with Fewer Miles to Travel
Purdue University’s football team faces a challenging schedule in the 2025 season, but there is one silver lining that stands out. The Boilermakers will have one of the least traveled schedules among Big Ten teams this year, which could offer some advantages for the team and its fans.
The Big Ten Conference has expanded significantly over the years, stretching from the East Coast to the West Coast. However, Purdue’s travel plans for the upcoming season are relatively minimal compared to other schools. According to Google Maps, the Boilermakers will only cover a total of 3,260.6 miles during the 2025 college football campaign. This number is notably lower than the distances some of their Western counterparts will travel, which can exceed 7,000 miles in certain cases.
Barry Odom, Purdue’s new head coach, will lead the team through five road games in his first season. The first three games of the season will be played at Ross-Ade Stadium, where the Boilermakers will host Ball State, Southern Illinois, and USC. Their first road trip is scheduled for Saturday, September 20, when they face in-state rival Notre Dame.
The team won’t leave Indiana until October 11, when they take on Minnesota. This is followed by a game against Northwestern on October 18, and then a matchup with Michigan on November 1. The longest trip of the season will be a journey to Seattle on November 15 to face Washington. That single game accounts for 67.1% of the total miles Purdue will travel this year, covering a distance of 2,189.4 miles.
Despite the relatively short travel distances, the schedule itself remains tough. Purdue will face several high-profile opponents, including Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Illinois, and Indiana. These matchups present significant challenges for the team, but the reduced travel burden could help the players stay more focused and rested throughout the season.
