Significant progress in fields like transportation, technology, medicine, and learning have enhanced the standard of living for many people around the world.
Nevertheless, humans tend to be quite self-centered by nature, and the greatest challenges we face often come from within ourselves. Therefore, when Reddit user Jennimackenzie posted on the site, asking its community, “What’s the most absurd ‘first world problem’ you’ve witnessed people getting upset over?” many had stories to tell.
Having to wait a bit to get a free item or dealing with misbehaving smartphone applications, the question has received more than 3.6K responses. Keep scrolling to see the ones that made it to the top, receiving many likes.

Like 90% of the conversation around cultural appropriation. Cultural appropriation is meant to refer to situations where things that hold deep, meaningful, and significant cultural value are taken and turned into something commercialized to the extent that it disrespects or diminishes the original purpose or meaning of those items. Not “oh my gosh, this white girl has a dreamcatcher in her room” or “oh my gosh, this white person went to Japan and wore a kimono.” People are dying, Kim, and you’re upset because Becky got braids when she traveled? Also, most of the time, the people getting angry about this stuff aren’t even from that culture—they’re just random white people trying to show off their morals. And often, when you ask people from that culture, they either don’t care much or are actually glad that others are showing interest and participating in their culture. It really sounds like “I’m so privileged that I have nothing in my life that’s actually worth being upset about, so I’m going to get offended on behalf of other people over issues that aren’t really that big of a deal.”

We were able to contact Jennimackenzie, and the Redditor was generous enough to provide some context regarding their post.
“I came up with the idea while in the kitchen at work, browsing Reddit and waiting for the Keurig,” they said.Bored Panda.
I came across a post where the writer was extremely upset about his fast-food encounter (he was told to pull out of the line and wait in a parking area while using the drive-thru).

When I was around 19 years old, I was at my boyfriend’s family barbecue. I was wearing a beautiful floral sundress. His cousin’s girlfriend arrived in the exact same dress and she was extremely upset, so she went and changed. I’ll never comprehend getting angry because someone is wearing the same thing as you. Did you really believe that the shirt you bought from a store would be exclusive to you? No.

I work in a public library. People become extremely upset when they have to be placed on a waitlist for a book. A highly sought-after book that just released. Well, our services are not only free but the books are too. You’re welcome, a******s.

After reviewing the responses they received, Jennimackenzie identified several common themes, with food being the most prominent.
That’s reasonable. Although many of us don’t need to concern ourselves with our next meal, as many as 783 million individuals around the globe face hunger. This indicates that one out of every ten people sleeps with an empty stomach each night.
Additionally, out of the 783 million individuals, 333 million are experiencing extreme food shortages.

Weddings can be a perfect setting for this issue. People become so excited about their “most important day,” they might ruin friendships, take on significant debt, and have unrealistic expectations. It’s not always the couple acting out of line. Sometimes, it’s the parents or another family member who believes they should have control over the wedding. It’s simply a celebration. Show respect to your guests, provide ample food and beverages, and have a good time.
It’s a significant issue even in advanced countries. For instance, in the United States, more than 44 million individuals, including 13 million children, face food insecurity each year.
This is a widespread problem that can affect anyone, not an individual shortcoming. Individuals dealing with food insecurity frequently encounter challenges such as elevated living expenses, costly housing, joblessness, and positions offering minimal pay.

A boss I had around ten years ago was an extremely wealthy individual who would frequently visit the bank to obtain new, clean bills. He would call ahead to ensure they had some available. I believe he was a germophobe. He had a trash can where he threw away $1 and $5 bills he considered “dirty” and would regularly donate them instead of using them. When I asked him why he did this, he said it was too much effort and offered if I wanted them. I said [darn] yes and put them in my bag, and when I got home, there was almost $400 in singles and fives. //edit: Wow, didn’t expect such a reaction. Another time, he wanted to upgrade all the computers in his studio, so we bought 10 PCs. Each came with a $150 mail-in rebate, and he didn’t want to bother with mailing them. Three weeks later, I received $1500 after spending an entire afternoon filling out all those [darn] forms.

I’ve been through everything from chemotherapy to two decades of immunotherapy, had a dozen surgeries, spent a year of my teenage years paralyzed (had to relearn how to walk), experienced cardiac arrest on multiple occasions, my mother is a diagnosed narcissist, and I recently left my abusive soon-to-be-ex-husband. Very few things can really get to me, and it takes a lot to anger or upset me. I’m genuinely patient, kind, and understanding. Recently took some time off, which included renting a car. The man in front of me completely lost his mind about the type of car he was given. He *demanded* a Tesla. They told him they didn’t have any available. A disagreement followed. The only staff member, a young woman no older than 22 or 23, was the only one working that night. She went above and beyond by contacting another local rental company (in the same large airport garage) and asked if they had any Teslas available. They did, but it was only 60% charged. The customer threw a fit about the charge level. Dude… they *specifically* told you they didn’t have any Teslas available, then went out of their way to get one for you through another company, but you still throw a tantrum about the charge level it’s at!? 🤨😐🤦♀️ Talk about entitlement.
Jennimackenzie mentioned that the conversation was quite engaging to read, but they believe the frequency of first-world issues also reveals something about modern society.
Most people are happily unaware of the challenges each individual faces in their life. There is a clear absence of comprehension regarding ‘the bigger picture’ or ‘our shared experience.’
“Irritation is innate; regardless of how comfortable our lives may be, we will always discover something to be upset about and lose our composure,” the Redditor noted.

Haha, so last week I had to change a train ticket at the last minute. When I went to sit in my assigned seat, the guy who was supposed to be sitting there had all his things spread out on it. He was using my tray table to hold his food and had his laptop on the other one. I politely told him that was my seat, and he responded with “ugh, did you just book this last minute? The app said it was empty and that I would have this row to myself.” He was grumbling and complaining the entire two-hour trip into NYC. It was kind of funny, honestly. I’ll never figure out why people get so upset about having a seatmate on public transportation.

I was working at the return counter in a Target located near a military base, so I have countless stories. One of my favorites involved a woman who had her baby shower before finding out the gender and was extremely upset because she received floral newborn diapers, thinking she was having a girl. It was a large box of very expensive, all-natural diapers that we didn’t stock, so we couldn’t process a return. I couldn’t fully describe her anger and disappointment. How could anyone think her son would wear feminine diapers? I suggested she donate them if she didn’t want to use them, but instead, she threw away the entire box. After she left, we took it out and put it in our donation bin. There have also been several instances where mothers ordered huge toys, and when we brought them to the car, they became furious because they weren’t wrapped. We don’t provide wrapping services. Here’s the thing: if you don’t want your kids to see the gifts you got them for Christmas or their birthday, don’t bring the child when you pick it up. I’ve had multiple women yell and curse at me, claiming I ruined their kids’ Christmas by bringing the toys they ordered to the car as requested.

Being disrespectful to a retail or food service employee over trivial matters. I’m truly sorry that your 3500 calorie meal didn’t include the ranch side you requested. Be courteous and get your additional sugar. Goodness, people can be such jerks.

I watched a video of a woman becoming extremely upset because she received a KitchenAid mixer for Christmas. Those appliances are very costly. I would be thrilled to get one, but she was really angry. I just think it’s ridiculous to get upset over something like that.
