MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – Chevron and the Ariat Texas Rattlers revealed the revival of the PBR Chevron Showdown sponsored by Ariat Texas Rattlers at Ector County Coliseum on June 4, 2026, with tickets now available for purchase.
As part of PBR’s Challenger Series, the one-night event makes a return to West Texas, bringing the intense excitement of professional bull riding along with a community-focused mission centered on the $800 for 8 program, which transforms every successful Rattlers ride into tangible support across Texas.
The 2026 Chevron Showdown will highlight the sport during a high-energy, single-night professional bull riding event aimed at emphasizing the athletes, the bulls, and the West Texas rodeo heritage that drives them. By focusing the evening on top-tier competition and community involvement, this year’s event underscores the Showdown’s reputation as a leading bull riding experience in the Permian Basin.
The invitation-only structure will include a selected group of professional bull riders and up-and-coming athletes competing for cash prizes and a custom championship buckle. The Ariat Texas Rattlers will join the invited competitors, forming a distinctive arena atmosphere where new riders challenge established champions, providing fans with high-level team athletic performances. The Rattlers’ management will once again invite another PBR team to Odessa for the event, introducing a competitive matchup that expands on last year’s multi-team setup. As part of the 2026 Chevron Showdown, the Rattlers and Chevron will officially acknowledge the influence of the 2025 “$800 for 8” initiative, which included financial support for the Odessa College Rodeo Team. This assistance enhanced collegiate rodeo opportunities in the area and highlighted a mutual dedication to supporting the future of West Texas athletes.
Tom Kelly, the head coach of the Odessa College Rodeo Team, stated, “Being able to have a top-tier team like the Texas Rattlers join our Odessa College Bull Riders is a tremendous honor. As far as I know, we are the only rodeo team in the country with this kind of opportunity on such a large scale. This privilege shouldn’t be underestimated. I can genuinely say that training with and competing against the Rattlers has improved my bull riding program. Moreover, the Chevron PBR Showdown is an excellent way to engage the community in part of the western industry.”
To now, Chevron has contributed over $160,000 to charities in the Permian Basin via the $800 for 8 initiative, supporting groups such as the Midland Children’s Rehabilitation Center Hippotherapy Program, FFA programs in MISD and ECISD, the Reeves County Junior Livestock Show, and the Odessa College Rodeo.
