1. Round Rock church steps in to provide home repairs city can’t cover

Round Rock homeowners who earn just above federal aid limits now have another option for critical home repairs, thanks to a new program from First United Methodist Church in partnership with the city’s existing efforts. The ministry is already fixing long-delayed issues like HVAC, plumbing, accessibility upgrades, and exterior repairs for residents, with several more projects scheduled this year and hopes to grow as volunteers and funding increase.

1. Man charged with murder for allegedly shooting, killing sister: sheriff

A Round Rock woman, 63-year-old Cynthia Rios Juarez, was fatally shot Tuesday during a domestic incident at an eastern Travis County home, according to the sheriff’s office. Her brother, an Austin man, has been charged with murder, while another brother who allegedly shot the suspect is not facing charges as detectives continue investigating the family dispute.

1. Texas primaries: ‘ShamWow Guy’ Vince Offer loses GOP bid for Texas’ 31st congressional district

Voters in Round Rock are part of Texas’ 31st Congressional District, where longtime Republican Rep. John Carter easily defeated infomercial pitchman Vince “ShamWow” Offer in Tuesday’s GOP primary. Democrat Justin Early currently leads his party’s primary, setting up a likely Carter–Early matchup that will decide who represents Round Rock and neighboring Central Texas communities in Congress.

1. Burnet Road project tackles traffic and drainage woes

If you commute between Round Rock and downtown Austin, expect major changes on Burnet Road soon, as construction begins next week on a five-mile upgrade corridor. The project adds better bike lanes, sidewalks, crossings, and drainage, improving a key alternate route while I-35 faces long-term construction.
