Plan Your 2026 Cherry Blossom Visit Around These Key DC Dates

Washington residents can start planning their cherry blossom outings, as the National Park Service expects peak bloom around March 29 to April 1, 2026, while Capital Weather Gang projects slightly later dates. Centered on the Tidal Basin, the season anchors the National Cherry Blossom Festival, running March 20 through April 12 with citywide events like the Blossom Kite Festival and Petalpalooza.

What the New Court Ruling Means for DC’s Gun Magazine Limits

A federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., has struck down the District’s ban on gun magazines holding more than 10 rounds, calling them common arms protected by the Second Amendment. The ruling overturns a local man’s magazine-related conviction and also wipes out related firearm registration and licensing convictions that depended on the now-invalid ban.

Why Explosives Were Brought to a Prominent DC Cathedral Before Red Mass

A New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to bringing more than 100 homemade explosive devices to St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Washington, D.C., ahead of the annual Red Mass linked to the Supreme Court’s term. He admitted to using the threat of violence to press demands on federal and church authorities and now faces a recommended prison sentence of nearly six to just over seven years.
