Road Closures and Event Details for Myrtle Beach Marathon

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — If you’re planning to drive on the Grand Strand this Saturday, it’s important to be aware of the road closures that will occur during the annual Myrtle Beach Marathon and Half-Marathon. The event is expected to bring significant traffic changes, especially in the early morning hours.

The races start at 6:20 a.m. from the parking lot at Pelicans Ballpark, located at 1251 21st Ave. North. However, some road closures will begin as early as 4 a.m. City officials recommend that motorists use the Highway 17 Bypass to avoid disruptions caused by the event.

Race Schedule and Key Events

The marathon serves as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon and includes several events throughout the day. The Elite Invitational, which features top runners from the Southeast, starts at 6:20 a.m. with a prize purse of $17,500.

Following the elite race, wheelchair and hand-cyclist participants will take off at 6:30 a.m., followed by the main marathon and half-marathon runners at 6:35 a.m. The half-marathon course will close at 10 a.m., while the full marathon course will remain closed until 1:15 p.m.

Parking Information

Race-day parking for runners and spectators is available at Broadway at the Beach, located at 1352 Celebrity Circle. This location provides convenient access to the event for those attending.

  • 21st Avenue North, from King Street to Greens Boulevard (4 to 7:30 a.m.)
  • 21st Avenue North, from Greens Boulevard to Grissom Parkway (7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)
  • Grissom Parkway, from 29th Avenue North to 21st Avenue North (4 to 7:30 a.m.)
  • Grissom Parkway, from 21st Avenue North to Mr. Joe White Avenue (4 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)
  • Joe White Avenue, from Grissom Parkway to Kings Highway (6:20 a.m. to 7 a.m.)
  • Joe White Avenue, from Grissom Parkway to Kings Highway – One westbound lane closed (7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.)
  • Joe White Avenue, from Kings Highway to Ocean Boulevard (6:30 to 10 a.m.)
  • Kings Highway, from Mr. Joe White Avenue to Farrow Parkway – Southbound lanes closed (6:30 to 8 a.m.)
  • Farrow Parkway, from Kings Highway to Meyers Avenue (7 to 9 a.m.)Note: local traffic for The Market Common can access the area from the Highway 17 (Bypass) side. Traffic from Ocean Boulevard and Kings Highway can access Farrow Parkway, utilizing one lane that’s diverted to Pampas Drive.
  • Pampas Drive, eastbound from Mallard Lake Drive to Farrow Parkway (7 to 9 a.m.)
  • Howard Avenue, from Farrow Parkway to Reed Avenue (7 to 9 a.m.)
  • Emmens Avenue, from Gabreski Lane to Farrow Parkway (7 to 9 a.m.)
  • Ocean Boulevard, from South Kings Highway to Eighth Avenue North Northbound lanes closed (7:15 to 10:15 a.m.)
  • Ocean Boulevard, from Eighth Avenue North to 12th Avenue North – All lanes closed (7:30 to 10:15 a.m.)
  • Ocean Boulevard, from 12th Avenue North to 31st Avenue North – Northbound lanes closed (7:30 to 11 a.m.)
  • Ocean Boulevard, from 31st Avenue North to 52nd Avenue North – Northbound curb lane closed (7:30 to 11 a.m.)
  • Ocean Boulevard, from 52nd Avenue North to 82nd Parkway – Northbound lanes closed (7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.)
  • Ocean Boulevard, from Porcher Drive to 82nd Parkway – Northbound lanes closed (8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.)
  • Grande Dunes Boulevard, from Ocean Boulevard to Kings Highway – Eastbound lanes closed (8 a.m. to 12 p.m.)
  • Grande Dunes Boulevard, from Kings Highway to Highway 17 (Bypass) – Eastbound lanes closed (8 a.m. to 12 p.m.)
  • Kings Highway, from Grande Dunes Boulevard to 65th Avenue North – Southbound curb lane closed (8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)
  • 65th Avenue North– Westbound lanes closed (8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.)
  • Frontage Road– Southbound lanes closed (8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
  • Grissom Parkway, from Perrins Path exit and Granddaddy Drive to 21st Avenue North – Northbound lane closed (8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)

Motorists should plan their routes carefully and consider alternate paths to avoid delays. Local businesses and residents are encouraged to stay informed about the schedule to minimize disruption.
