Discover the Magic of Ocean City Beach
Ocean City Beach is a top attraction for both locals and tourists. Visitors will spend hours strolling along the famous boardwalk, checking out the specialty shops and attractions. But for us locals, the biggest draw is actually the daily sunrises over the water. There is nothing more peaceful than watching the soft glow as the sun emerges, as the gentle waves roll in. And immersing in the stillness when the sun rises at Ocean City Beach in Maryland is a wonderful way to set the tone for the day. Well, at least in my opinion.
The sun tends to rise over the beach anytime between 6 and 7:30 a.m. However, the exact moment depends on the time of year you plan to visit. So, keep this in mind when you set your alarm for bright and early on the day you plan to make a trip to Ocean City Beach to enjoy the beautiful sunrise in Maryland!
Boardwalk, Sandy Beaches, and Sunshine Days
If you have spent any time in Maryland, a trip to Ocean City is literally a rite of passage. Beach days here are the quintessential way to spend the summer in Maryland. Millions of folks visit for one reason or another. Between the boardwalk, the restaurants, live music, the rides, and the sandy shores, there is no shortage of entertainment here.
Eating Thrasher’s fries is still one of my favorite things to do on the boardwalk—if you know, you know. Although the attractions are fun, it’s those quieter moments here that are the most memorable. If you ask me, Ocean City Beach is one of the most beautiful places in Maryland, and here’s why.
Sunrises and Shoreline Memories at the Beach
Before the distractions and the buzzing noises of the outside world take over, make your way to Ocean City Beach to welcome the day. Once you start to see the sunrise, you’ll realize that getting up at the crack of dawn was absolutely worth it! As a bonus, you’ll also get to enjoy the peace and quiet before the beach gets packed for the day. Plus, as you breathe in the crisp morning air, you get to slow down and pay attention to the sights and soothing sounds around you. The seagulls squawking in the distance, the gentle waves rolling in, and the rustling in nearby shrubs will bring your morning to life.
Even on a hazy day, the sunrise still looks totally spectacular over the water. You can also spend time with your best friend as you take it all in. Once the sun fully rises, continue your stroll down the beach with your furry pal. Rather than getting a jolt of caffeine from a coffee, how about taking an invigorating dip in the water as you continue to enjoy the sunrise?
Make sure to bring your camera to capture the moment the sun makes its grand entrance over the horizon. You might see photographers trying to capture the beautiful scenes, too. But have no worries, there will be lots of room to enjoy the sunrise by the beach. After all, the Ocean City shores stretch for approximately 10 miles along the Fenwick Island Peninsula.
And once the sun has risen, feel free to wander over to the popular Ocean City Boardwalk to grab a bite to eat. Spending the day here wouldn’t be a bad idea. Beyond the beach, you can head to the iconic Fenwick Island Lighthouse or catch the wild ponies at Assateague Island. In addition to Ocean City Beach, there are many other breathtaking vantage points to watch the sunrise in Maryland. Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis is another dreamy spot to start your day in the Old Line State.
