Beyond the most deceitful of Wizards of the Coast’s marketing executives, it is widely recognized by those with even a slight interest inMagic: The Gatheringthat the present condition of the popular TCG tends to be more annoying than not, particularly regarding its unwelcoming distribution methods and increasing disregard for its initial characters and backstory in favor of external IPs such as Final Fantasy, Sonic the Hedgehog, and upcoming, Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Although the concept might appear to be simply a clear money-making scheme, its first official preview at the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con has shown that, irrespective of one’s opinion on its presence or its characters,Magic: The Gathering‘an upcoming Spider-Man collection is being created with an objectively remarkable level of care and respect for the comic book origins of the web-slinger.

The second of the year’s complete Universes Beyond crossover sets and the second to be fully legal across all of the game’s primary formats after WotC’s Januaryruling change, theMTGThe launch of Marvel’s most legendary hero will offer players 349 new cards, consisting of original cards, reprints, and alternative art versions, all centered on Spider-Man and his incredible allies.

There, the game’s five fundamental color lines will each be symbolized by a distinct member of the Spider-Family, with the justice-focused, team-unifying White being represented by the primary, Earth-616 version of Peter Parker:

The velocity and precision of Blue are now under Miguel O’Hara’s command, also recognized as Spider-Man 2099 (and by the way, take a look at that initial Lyla concept!):

The demise and decay of Black, unsurprisingly carried by Spider-Man’s twisted silhouette, Venom:

Red’s bold approach to combat was given to Spider-Gwen, whose confident, assertive personality and passion for high-energy punk music made her the perfect fit:

And Green being assigned to Miles Morales – although this one seems less about the theme and more because it was the last color remaining:

Of course, Spider-Man would not be the same without his friends and family standing by his side or supporting him, and his coming out inMTGis no different, featuring allies such as Aunt May, Silver Sable, and even Ollie Osnick, the remarkable Spider-Kid, rushing into the action:

Miles also invites several of his friends, such as his Uncle Aaron, the flight-enabled Starling, and Ganke Lee:

Instead of remaining on the sidelines, the residents of New York City are also prepared to join the battle, with the population split into those who despise the web-slinger, those who do what they can to support him, and those who have been forcibly mutated due to the Spider-Island event:

And just like any story worth sharing, this set is also “all about a girl. That girl. The girl next door. Mary Jane Watson,” whose card features range from ‘actor,’ to ‘Peter’s true love,’ to ‘the new Iron Spider’ (a nod to the time she briefly wore the suit inAmazing Spider-Man Volume 4 Issue 15).

Additionally, in recent years, Spider-Man has embraced a more multiversal approach, so it’s not surprising that various characters from the Spider-Verse will soon appear in decks. These include the more lighthearted ones such as Spider-Rex and Spider-Ham, as well as genuine fan favorites like Spider-Man Noir and (unexpectedly) the original version of Peni Parker, created by Gerard Way, along with her Sp//dr mech:

(Interestingly, it appears that most, if not all of the different Spider-people, including the five mentioned, have a card where their casting mana cost only requires one specific colored mana. Therefore, in a ‘nod to the hat’ moment regarding thematic game mechanic adaptation, the new)Multiverse Portalland card, as shown at the end of the below graphic, actually enables a player to essentially castanySpider-verse member they need.)

Speaking about alternative outfits (and in true Spider-Man style, no pun intended), Pete’s broader clothing collection also seems to be receiving some attention, with both the Symbiote and fabric versions of his black suit showing up on several cards, particularly those featuring the latter making a nod to the famous Kraven’s Last Hunt storyline:

In that regard, Spider-Man possesses one of the largest and most renowned collections of villains in the entire comic book world (second perhaps only to Batman), so it’s logical that his major adversaries would accompany him through the multiverse.

With more expected to follow, those currently confirmed to be joining Venom in hisMTGSearch for the Spider includes the Green Goblin himself, Norman Osborn:

The four-armed Doctor Octopus, along with one of his Spider-Bots (a potential clue about the set including a Superior Spider-Man card):

In addition to lower-level antagonists such as the new Beetle, Scorpion, Electro, Shocker, Silvermane, and even more obscure characters like the Enforcers and Stegron the Dinosaur Man:

And as isMTGtradition, the Spider-Man set will include its own collection of lands – two in total, with one showcasing artwork that incorporates the corresponding mana symbols into a spider-web design:

While the second one intercepts Spider-Man at different moments during his journey through New York City:

Additionally, as shown in some of the aforementioned preview collages, the set will also include several alternative art cards, with their styles divided betweenMTGstyle variations, original works by renowned comic book artists, and art reprints from earlier published comic books:

Speaking of comic books, finally, let’s discuss the set’sinsanely coolconnecting chase card set.

Comprising nine cards in total, this alternate art set features each character’s single-colored-land-cost version with fresh artwork, created by experienced Marvel Comics artist Jim Cheung and colorist Jay David Ramos.

But rather than just a basic reissue, these cards collectively create a large mural similar to the comic book trading card sets from the 90s, showcasing the top web-slingers of the Spider-Verse battling against a lineup of notable Spider-villains and their different versions:

(Although the last card in the set has not been unveiled yet, considering its position in the complete mural, it is expected to be a reissue of the previously mentioned blue/white)Sp//dr, Piloted by Peni.)

Considering the Spider-Gwen and Miles cards are double-sided, the back sides will also display an interconnected scene showing them taking a break from their superhero roles outside of their uniforms:

At present, theMagic: The GatheringxMarvel’s Spider-Mancrossover set is scheduled to be available on web-zip at retail stores on September 26, 2025 – However, if the previousFinal Fantasybased on current indications, even at the present high prices, eager players may still choose to pre-order their preferred Spider-products before demand increasesreallystarts ramping.
