Where To Stay in Halifax
I stayed at the Westin Nova Scotian for my visit. It’s right by the waterfront, with a briny sea breeze as fresh as the seasonal menu they serve up in their on-site restaurant.
Here, you get a comfortable bed plus some great views of the harbor. It’s also within 10-20 minutes of a lot of peak sightseeing: the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Neptune Theatre, and the Waterfront Boardwalk.

Top 3 Reasons to Take a Halifax Helicopter Tour
I’m all about one-of-a-kind experiences, and trust me when I say, this one is top-tier. And the uniqueness is far from the only reason to give it a shot.
Awesome Views Like No Other
First, there’s the amazing, bird’s eye view of the Nova Scotia coastline. Even if you fly into Canada, let’s be honest—you’re not going to get a good view as you’re coming into land. You’re too high up, the window’s too tiny, and the airplane wing is probably in the way.
With a Halifax helicopter tour, you don’t have any of those issues. You can take your time hovering above the city at just the right height to take it all in: crystal clear turquoise waters, white granite coastlines, and the mix of modern and historic architecture that makes up Halifax’s landscape.
Sambro Island Lighthouse: Canada’s Lady Liberty
Second, a helicopter tour is (in my humble opinion) the best way to experience Sambro Island and see the Sambro Island lighthouse. This is the oldest still-working lighthouse on the entire continent.
Since 2014, the Sambro Island Lighthouse Heritage Society has been maintaining the lighthouse, which was built in 1758. That’s right; this bad boy’s almost 300 years old, and has seen wars, revolutions, and more. A visit here is a chance to get some unique photos and experience an important slice of history.
Wildlife Spotting Galore
I already gushed about this in my Nova Scotia itinerary, but I saw tons of wildlife while on this tour. The biggest highlights were the brown bear and the seals.
Speaking as someone who’s gone on wildlife safaris, there’s something special about seeing wildlife from above instead of stalking them through the trees. You want to pack a pair of binoculars (or a camera with a telephoto lens) for sure. But frankly, the exhilaration of soaring through the sky while seeing everything down below is something else.

Is a Halifax Helicopter Tour Worth It?
If you are eyeing a Halifax helicopter tour, you are probably wondering if it is actually worth the splurge. Fair question. This is not your average sightseeing activity. It is a big experience with a big price tag to match.
A Halifax helicopter tour is for travelers who want something memorable, a little flashy, and very out of the ordinary. You are paying for the thrill, the views, and the story you get to tell later.
Typical price: Plan on roughly CA$650 to CA$750 per person for higher end packages that include landing time and extras like a picnic. Shorter scenic flights can cost less. Rates depend on season and availability.
Who a Halifax Helicopter Tour Is Right For
If you want your Nova Scotia trip to have a standout moment, a Halifax helicopter tour can be it. If you just want to see Halifax, there are cheaper ways. This is about the experience. Not the practicality.
Booking a Halifax Helicopter Ride
As you might imagine, helicopter tours are a lot more specialized than your run-of-the-mill ferry or bus tours. Vision Air Services is the only company I know of that offers them in Halifax. I gotta say, I was pleased with my experience with them: fantastic, thoughtful service; customizable itinerary; and the safety and security of knowing you’re in experienced hands.
The price tag for their Heli-Picnic Island Escape is up there (CA$650-750 per person, not including tax), but it is 1000% worth it. It lasts a good 2 hours, including both your time in the air and on the ground, visiting Sambro Island and having a divine charcuterie and wine picnic.
To book, head on over to their website and contact Vision Air Services directly for a consultation and quote. But before you do that, there are some things you want to keep in mind…
Tips for a Smooth Helicopter Experience
Timing is everything! The Halifax helicopter tour takes off from Halifax Stanfield International Airport, so you want to be sure to arrange transportation there. I’d suggest either a car rental or taxi since a bus ride could easily double or triple travel time.
As someone who’s a fan of road-tripping, I’d stick with a car rental. It gives you the most freedom and convenience, even if local public transportation isn’t so great. But to each their own.
No matter your mode of transport, make sure to arrive 20 minutes before your tour’s departure time. Trust me, you’ll want to squeeze every second you can out of this adventure!
Aside from that, be sure to wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Make sure to pay attention to the weather report as well and dress accordingly—you do not want to be caught in shorts if the temperature is below freezing!

Don’t Miss Out on Sambros Island and Other Must-See Adventures!
A Halifax helicopter tour is one of those experiences that reminds you that sometimes travel is about doing the bold, slightly indulgent thing just because you can. This helicopter journey delivers stunning coastal views and a genuinely thrilling perspective on the city that most sightseeing tours Halifax visitors book simply cannot match.
If you are mapping out your time, treat this as a splurge option within your bigger Halifax tourism plans. Pair it with other things to do in Halifax, add a tasting stop at the wineries in Wolfville, or work it into a wider Nova Scotia itinerary to see more of the province. Go big, enjoy the view, and let this be the story you still talk about when the trip is over.
