A passing occurred last week on theCarnival Dreamhas sparked concerns regarding the cruise company’s openness, despite authorities stating that the correct protocol was adhered to following a death at sea.

Grizzy’s Hood News initially reported on July 23 that a male passenger aboard the Dream was discovered to be unresponsive early that morning in a cabana situated on one of the ship’s adult-only areas. As per Grizzy’sFacebook page, passengers were alerted by ship-wide alarms and notifications on their room phones around 2 or 3 a.m.

Stories about what occurred spread online for several days until the Dream arrived back in Galveston on Saturday morning, after which Carnival released a statement saying there was nothing wrong.

“There has been no inquiry into a suspicious death aboard the Carnival Dream, and it is disappointing to discover that some guests may be spreading rumors about matters they have no knowledge of,” the cruise line stated in astatement to KHOU.

However, a representative from the FBI’s Houston office confirmed to MathHotels.com on Monday that the agency is looking into an event that took place around July 23 on the Dream. A maritime liaison agent based in Texas City was working with the U.S. Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection, and Carnival, said public service officer Connor Hagan.

“Because the investigation is still ongoing, I can’t share more information right now,” Hagan said.

Carnival representative Matt Lupoli, the cruise line’s senior manager of public relations, stated to MathHotels.com on Monday that the death was not unusual.

It is common for the FBI to examine deaths that happen aboard cruise ships,” Lupoli stated. “This standard procedure promotes openness. It doesn’t necessarily mean there are any suspicious elements, and the details of this case don’t indicate any such involvement. We offer our deepest condolences to the guest’s family and friends during this challenging period.

On his TikTok profile@cruiseshiplawyer, Florida cruise ship injury lawyer Spencer Aronfeld supported Carnival’s statement. According to Aronfeld, federal maritime law grants the FBI authority over any death at sea if either the victim or the person responsible is a U.S. citizen, no matter the location of the incident.

It doesn’t imply any wrongdoing,” Aronfeld stated. “People pass away on cruise ships frequently, which is why Carnival vessels are equipped with morgues, but it will be crucial for us to find out what occurred to this passenger and the reasons behind it.

According to Carnival’s schedule for a six-day cruiseThe Dream departed Galveston on Sunday, July 20. By Wednesday, the ship was en route between Belize and Cozumel, Mexico, when several passengers claimed they heard alarms ringing during the night.

A passenger was Amanda Meadows, a comedian based in North Carolina, who posted her experience on Sunday via a Facebook video that has received over 1,500 comments and been shared more than 500 times. Meadows, who considers herself a light sleeper, mentioned she heard the alarms and an announcement instructing the ship’s medical team to go to the Serenity Deck, which is only accessible to passengers aged 21 and older.

Meadows, whose trailer park-inspired “Charlene” character has aided her in gaining1 million TikTok followersShe mentioned she left her cabin to check what was happening, but crew members were not permitting passengers to enter the ship’s smoking area at that moment. Instead, she recorded some footage of the empty casino on the ship and then went back to her room.

After leaving again at 6 a.m., Meadows spoke with a crew member who informed her that someone had been assaulted, but otherwise “they didn’t act like anything had occurred,” she mentioned, so she “continued with the remainder of the journey.”

Things like that don’t occur in my life, so it didn’t make sense,” Meadows said. “I thought he was just injured or something, and then when I left the ship, everyone started messaging me about it.

I simply wanted to inform everyone that I didn’t witness the actual [death]; I’m relying on what the staff member shared with me,” she added. “I don’t believe he wanted to get involved and was just doing his job.

The passing of a person at sea has been a widely discussed subject across various platforms for several days, but some users seem to have mixed up the events on the Dream with an incident involving two South African crew members aboard Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas. While this vessel was close to the Bahamian island of San Salvador last week, according toCBS News, a 35-year-old man stabbed a 28-year-old woman multiple times before leaping into the water.

The police informed the network that the man was later discovered unresponsive and declared dead by the Icon’s medical team, while the woman suffered several stab injuries to her upper body and was said to be in stable condition.
