As a stay-at-home mom, I’ve found that sometimes all I need is a quick escape with my kids. While indoor play areas are great, they can be expensive or require planning. That’s where local coffee shops with play areas come in handy—they provide a relaxed environment where you can enjoy a cup of coffee while your kids have fun.

Columbia Heights
Community Grounds

Community Grounds is more than just a coffee shop—it’s a community hub. Their Facebook page features events like game nights, maker’s markets, and holiday crafts. Though we haven’t visited yet, the photos show a fun playroom with a castle. They’re open Wednesday through Saturday from 9 am to noon. You can also order online for pickup.

Jordan
Owl’s Nest Cafe
231 Broadway St. S, Jordan, MN
Owl’s Nest Cafe has an impressive play area with pretend scenes like a grocery store, ice cream shop, and vet. The café serves coffee, baked goods, and food. It’s also home to Blossom, a children’s boutique, making it a great spot for shopping and sipping. Open Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm.

Maple Grove
Minisota Play Café

Minisota Play Café is a favorite for its imaginative play areas, including a music shop, hospital, and post office. The coffee is excellent, and you can bring your drinks into the play area. Hours vary seasonally, with tickets priced at $13 for a two-hour session for kids aged 1–9. Adults pay $6.50, and under six months are free. Happy Hour deals are available on weekdays.

Minneapolis
Ninth Street Soccer & Coffee

This unique spot combines soccer turf with a coffee shop. Kids can play during open hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2–4 pm, with extra activity on Fridays from 10 am to 12 pm. It’s a pay-what-you-can model, making it accessible for all families.

Sovereign Grounds

Sovereign Grounds is a go-to for many in Minnesota. The playroom includes climbers, a train table, and ride-on toys. Adults can enjoy coffee while the kids play. Remember to wear socks, as shoes are not allowed in the play area. Open Monday through Sunday from 6:30 am to 6 pm.

Ginkgo Coffeehouse is family-friendly with special drinks and food for kids. There are board games and books available, and they host children’s concerts on select Saturdays. Open Monday–Friday from 6:15 am to 8 pm, and Saturday–Sunday from 6:45 am to 8 pm.
