As fall officially begins, days fill with seasonal activities like apple picking, autumn movie marathons and haunted houses. However, for New Englanders, fall also marks the height of festival season. Here in Vermont, the season is celebrated with an exciting lineup of outdoor festivals that take place in the crisp fall weather, from September through November. From art festivals to harvest celebrations, the state is sure to have the perfect festival for the whole family to enjoy.
Here are seven fairs and festivals in Vermont to attend this fall.
Mount Snow Oktoberfest
Mount Snow Resort is back this year with their two-weekend Oktoberfest celebration. Various lounges and restaurants throughout the resort will be transformed into traditional German bierhalles, offering traditional Oktoberfest food and a wide selection of seasonal beers, ciders and other beverages. Other attractions include live music, games, local vendors and a large craft fair inside the Main Base Lodge. Additionally, Von Trapp Brewing will be back to host competitions for keg throwing and stein holding, with a one-night stay at the world-famous Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe up for grabs.

Killington Harvest Faire
Celebrate fall in the mountains at Killington Resort’s annual Harvest Faire. Activities include pumpkin painting, face painting, a bouncy house, tractor rides, live music, a stein hoisting competition and a vendor village, with an outdoor barbecue for all to enjoy. Admission and all activities are free.

Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival
If you love art, head to the 37th Annual Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival, a unique arts festival that showcases natural fibers and the fiber arts while educating and entertaining the public about fiber products. Along with fiber arts vendors, demonstrations and contests, the festival will also include food vendors, live music and an animal barn. A full schedule for the event can be found online.
Tickets, which are available online or in-person, cost $10 for adults or $5 for children under 12, with free entry for toddlers.

Vermont Apple Festival & Craft Show
The town of Springfield is back this year with the 40th Annual Vermont Apple Festival and Craft Show, bringing live music, a beer and wine garden, a farmers’ market, over 30 craft vendors and activities like axe throwing, bull riding, a bounce house and an obstacle course. Lots of gourmet fair food will also be available, including baked stuffed apples, fried lobster tails, kettle corn, fried dough, snow cones and more. The Vermont Apple Festival & Craft Show is free admission for all.
When:Saturday, Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Billings Farm & Museum Harvest Celebration
Join Billings Farm & Museum for their annual Harvest Celebration, commemorating the change of the season with harvest activities, food and fun for the whole family. Attractions include barn dancing, wagon rides, cider pressing, corn harvesting and more. The festival will also be full of delicious seasonal treats, including apple cider donuts, hot cider and pumpkin ice-cream from the Farmhouse Scoop Shop. Vermont Snack Shack will be on site serving soup and grilled cheese sandwiches, and adults can enjoy refreshments from Vermont Mobile Spirits.
Admission to the Harvest Celebration costs $23 for adults, $14 for children ages 3-15 or $19 for seniors ages 65 and older. Members and children under three always enter for free.

Autumn on the Green
For over two decades, Autumn on the Green has been bringing crafters, artisans, antiques and food together for a giant fall festival in the center of Danville. This year, the free festival will feature over 200 local vendors, as well as beautiful panoramic views of the vibrant foliage of Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom.

Art in the Park
Each fall, the Chaffee Art Center hosts an Art in the Park Festival showcasing fine art, photography and crafts from local artists. The free festival also includes specialty foods, children’s activities, live music and demonstrations of artworks in progress, making it the perfect fall festival for art lovers and families.
